Wenger admitted he would 'loved' to have managed Didier Drogba before he joined Chelsea in 2004.

And Ronaldo, who joined Real Madrid in a then world record move in 2009, was the one that got away for Wenger.

"My biggest regret, I was so close to signing Cristiano Ronaldo," Wenger said.

"And not only did I not get him, but he signed for Manchester United.

More surprisingly, Wenger claimed Lauren not Thierry Henry or Dennis Bergkamp was his best signing as Gunners boss.

"I’d never say which player was the best, but I think it’s the signings like Lauren who you spot when nobody else does," Wenger added.

"He was a right midfielder who I played at right back and was one of the invincibles."
