FA charges Burnley's James Tarkowski for violent conduct

Burnley defender James Tarkowski has been charged with violent conduct by the Football Association over an incident involving Glenn Murray in Saturday's 0-0 draw at Brighton.

Tarkowski's apparent elbow on Murray in the 35th minute of the Premier League contest left the Seagulls striker on the floor inside Burnley's 18-yard box.

The incident was not seen by the match officials at the time but caught on video.

In its statement announcing the charge on Monday, the FA said Tarkowski had until 6pm on Tuesday to respond.

Following Saturday's game, Brighton boss Chris Hughton said with regard to the incident: "It's a penalty.

"I've seen the elbow afterwards and it's a definite elbow on Glenn in the box and it's in play, the throw-in has been taken.

"Sometimes you can be critical of referees and sometimes not so. It's difficult to see, when it happens at that pace of the game.

"I think for the referee [Chris Kavanagh] not to see it or a linesman not to see it, I can half understand that one but it's certainly a penalty."

Murray said of his tangle with Tarkowski: "I can't remember what happened. I felt something in my ribs, the referee didn't see it so whatever."

Tarkowski had earlier fouled Murray for a penalty which was missed by the former Crystal Palace man.
