Belgium's Romelu Lukaku ruled out of Bosnia clash, could face Cyprus

Romelu Lukaku will not travel to Bosnia and Herzegovina for Belgium's World Cup qualifier on Saturday but is set to stay with the squad ahead of Cyprus' visit to Brussels on Tuesday, the Royal Belgian Football Association has confirmed.

Lukaku is recovering from an ankle injury he picked up before Manchester United's 4-0 win over Crystal Palace last weekend.

On Monday, a scan revealed no significant damage but the problem has prevented the 24-year-old from training with the rest of his Belgium teammates this week.

Belgium coach Roberto Martinez, who has been in contact with United's medical staff, has decided he will not risk Lukaku against Bosnia and Herzegovina.

However, the striker will stay at the Belgian Football Centre to continue his rehabilitation and there remains a chance he could feature against Cyprus on Tuesday.

Fellow United player Marouane Fellaini also missed Belgium training on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday because of an ankle problem.

The midfielder returned on Thursday and is in line to feature against Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Belgium sit top of Group H and have already qualified for next summer's World Cup in Russia.

United, meanwhile, face Liverpool at Anfield in their first game after the international break on Oct. 14.

Lukaku, who has scored 11 goals in 10 games following his £75 million move to Old Trafford from Everton, is sure to start against Liverpool if he is fit.

Fellaini is also in contention for a place in Jose Mourinho's starting XI with Paul Pogba still sidelined with a hamstring injury.
