Paul Pogba has been out of action for Man Utd since September

The France international has not featured since pulling up with a hamstring injury in the Champions League against Basel on September 12.

United have stayed tight-lipped about the extent of the problem other than last month when boss Jose Mourinho admitted it was ‘long-term’.

And the Portuguese coach was equally vague after the midweek win in Benfica.

He said: “I don’t know when he plays again.”

However, sources close to Mourinho indicate that the United supremo is optimistic Pogba, 24, could be back in action inside eight weeks.

That would mean the £89million ex-Juventus ace resuming full training next month – and being in first-team contention going into the club’s hectic festive schedule.

United have four fixtures in 11 days before Christmas, including a massive derby clash against title rivals Man City on December 10.

They then face another four league games between Boxing Day and the end of the New Year holiday period.
