Manchester United striker Lukaku caught the Liverpool defender with his boot after they tangled during Saturday’s clash at Anfield.

The FA has already decided not to take any action against Lukaku for violent conduct but Lovren has hit out at the Belgian.

He said: “I made a tackle there. I just felt he was over me and he could move away but to be honest my point of view is that he did it on purpose.

“Even if he did it normally he would apologise after that but I saw he was nervous during the game so maybe that was also the reason.”

Lovren also confirmed that he was caught in the face by the stray boot of the United striker but referee Martin Atkinson did not take any action at the time.

He added: “That happened on the pitch and it is over. I cannot change it and no-one can change it so that is what I am thinking about.

“This is not my decision. I cannot say I am disappointed but it is what it is. We need to move on. That is football, part of the game.”

The Croatia defender also revealed he is no longer taking pain killers to get through games because of back and groin problems.

He was quoted earlier this month saying he needed the help to deal with the injuries.

Lovren added: “I am fit now. I had issues with my back and groin a couple of weeks ago, last week even.

“I skipped the first game in the internationals and that helped me to put the pain down. I was struggling but now I am fit.”
