Liverpool host their old rivals on Merseyside this afternoon as the Premier League returns after the international break with a bang.

Ex-United boss Moyes is expecting a fiery affair and says it’s hard to take any pleasure out of the game unless your team wins.

He told the BBC: “Any game at Anfield is always intense but especially if you are manager of Everton or Manchester United.

“The Liverpool-Manchester United is a big thing, it was a big game for me at United and I lost 1-0 – Daniel Sturridge scored from a corner - even though we played well.

“It is a different United team that goes to Anfield now, they will go there with a lot of confidence but it is not an easy place to go.

“My record at Anfield was never great but at the end of my time at Everton, we topped them, we overtook them in the league.

“When I was at Everton, Liverpool had an incredible team with Xabi Alonso, Javier Mascherano, Steven Gerrard, Fernando Torres, we had to set up to find ways to not lose and work on their weaknesses.

“You never really enjoy the game unless you win. As a manager, you go into the game prepared, organised and having done all your work.

“During the game, you have to trust your players. By the end you decide if you enjoyed it or not.”

Moyes took over as United boss following Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013.

But the Scot did not last long in the job and was sacked in April 2014, being replaced by Louis van Gaal.
