Ahead of Arsenal's trip to Watford on Saturday, the Gunners boss has cast doubt on Ozil's future.

"We have envisaged every solution," Wenger explained.

"It is possible we might sell in January."

Manchester United have been linked with Ozil, with Jose Mourinho reportedly confident of striking a deal in the New Year.

Inter Milan and Besiktas have also been mooted as potential destinations for Ozil, who is yet to agree a new contract with Arsenal.

Wenger's comments will put United on alert, although the Frenchman will be reluctant to sell to a direct rivak, especially mid-season.

He insists Ozil is still keen to stay, but all depends on whether Arsenal can reach an agreement over a new deal before January.

He added: "It is my understanding [that he wants to stay]," Wenger said.

"The fact that we didn’t find an agreement last year doesn’t mean they will leave.

"Both players look happy here, overall I hope the situation can be turned around.

"At the moment we are not close enough to announce anything."

Ozil's agent, Erkut Sogut, yesterday claimed positive steps had been taken over a contract extension at Arsenal, which Wenger agreed was a fair assessment.

But Arsenal are still exploring their options, especially with Alexis Sanchez's deal running down too.

The club will not want to lose both star players for free next summer.

In the more immediate future, Wenger says Ozil is back in contention to feature at Watford on Saturday (5.30pm).

The Germany international has been sidelined in recent weeks with a knee problem.

But Wenger added: "Ozil and Welbeck are back training with the group and will be part of the group for this weekend."
