The centre-half has been a regular part of Juventus’ defence since signing for them in 2005.

Antonio Conte knows Chiellini well from his three-year spell as Juventus manager and more recent spell as Italy boss.

And the 33-year-old has been targeted by Conte since he arrived at Stamford Bridge.

However, according to Italian outlet Calciomercato, the Chelsea manager failed in his bid to convince Chiellini to try a different experience in England.

The Serie A star was wanted by Conte in the summer.

But Chiellini is said to have snubbed Conte’s advances in favour of ending his career at Juventus.

And Calciomercato add Chiellini is now set to receive a contract extension with the Old Lady.

An agreement is apparently close, with his new deal to be for either one or two years.

His current contract expires at the end of the season, but there is no chance of Chiellini leaving in 2018.

Conte subsequently landed Antonio Rudiger from Juventus’ Serie A rivals Roma, while full-back Davide Zappacosta was bought from Italians Torino too in the summer window.

Chelsea have plenty of options now at centre-back in their 3-4-3 system, with David Luiz, Gary Cahill, Cesar Azpilicueta and Andreas Christensen all further options.

France international Kurt Zouma is also out on loan at Stoke, but the experience of Chiellini would have certainly been welcomed by Conte at the Premier League champions.
