Hazard starred in Chelsea’s Champions League win against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday.

The display prompted team-mate Alvaro Morata to hail the Belgian as one of the top-three players in the game.

Liverpool legend Thompson agrees with Morata’s claim but believes Hazard needs to be more “selfish” in front of goal.

“Yes (he’s in the best three players in the world),” Thompson explained on Sky Sports.

“And I would agree with the stats that he should be sort of pushing to get and be more selfish.

“Be like Ronaldo, be like Messi when it comes to scoring the goals.

“It’s stated that he more likes an assist, which is great, but you get yourself in so many problems.

“This boy is another one who is just a joy to watch. Some of the stuff he produces in a match, and it’s always in the right areas, that final third of a pitch.

“Hazard’s given one of those performances, one of the great performances.

“He’s just come back from injury don’t forget and it says how much Conte and his staff, medical staff in particular, have nursed him to get the best out of games.

“They identified that game the other night and this one today.

“But the lad is just absolutely terrific and you hope that he does take more chances and he scores more goals and he will be up there with those guys.”
