The in-form Leicester striker says the Three Lions need to take care of business and book their ticket to the World Cup in Russia.

Vardy insists none of the England players or fans want last game drama in Lithuania to qualify from Group F.

Gareth Southgate’s men are currently five points clear at the top of the group heading into next Thursday’s Wembley showdown.

They face a Slovenia side who gave them a massive scare in Ljubljana almost 12 months ago, when only Joe Hart’s heroics stopped them being beaten.

England flew home with a hard-earned point after a 0-0 draw - but should have been beaten.

Now Vardy wants England to do a job on Slovenia and go into the last game without the nerves jangling.

The Leicester star said: “We need two more points so hopefully we can get them in the first game against Slovenia to make sure. Then we can top that off with a win in Lithuania.”

Vardy knows he’ll struggle to dislodge rein-form Harry Kane in the starting line-up, even though he doesn’t see himself as a back-up.

He added: “There’s still things I need to improve on – there’s some very good strikers wanting to get in that England squad.

“I’m planning to make sure I’m playing well for my club first and foremost.

“Harry’s has been in fine form for his club and country as well. It’s just one of those things.

“All you can do is you have to keep working hard, show you are playing well and put yourself in the picture.”

England are still waiting to hear whether Dele Alli will be banned for his one-finger salute against Slovakia.

But with Adam Lallana, Danny Drinkwater and Nathaniel Chalobah all injured, Southgate could add Southampton’s James Ward-Prowse to his squad, announced today.

Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford is poised to take Tom Heaton’s place after the Burnley player dislocated a shoulder.
