The Red Devils travel to the Russian side tomorrow night in United’s second Champions League group stage game.

And Mourinho says United will be without star defender Jones tomorrow but the reason behind his absence is unknown.

The Red Devils tweeted: “Jose Mourinho tells #MUTV Phil Jones will also miss Wednesday's #UCL meeting with CSKA Moscow.”

Jones has been instrumental for United this season, starting all six Premier League games under Mourinho.

The Red Devils boss also revealed United are without Michael Carrick, Marouane Fellaini and Paul Pogba for the CSKA clash tomorrow night.

He said: “We don’t have Fellaini, Pogba or Carrick, so all three midfield players we lose for this match, so the solutions are not many.

“But we try not to focus on individual battles on the pitch, we are going to have a team with quality and balance to try to win the match, which is the objective.”

On Fellaini, Mourinho added: “I do not expect him to be out for long.

“He was lucky, it could have been a much worse situation.”
