Manchester United have been dealt a blow in their long-running pursuit of Atletico Madrid superstar Antoine Griezmann.

According to El Confidencial, Chelsea’s Diego Costa is being brought in to link up with Griezmann, not replace him.

Atletico are resigning Costa for a mammoth £57m.

United shelved their plans to land Griezmann last summer but are expected to make a fresh move for him at the end of the season.

Arsenal wanted to bring Napoli star Dries Mertens to the Premier League this summer, according to reports in Italy.

The Gunners wanted to bolster their attacking ranks further in the last transfer window following on from Alexandre Lacazette’s mega-money arrival.

And according to Calciomercato, the Gunners had their eye on Belgian ace Mertens following his impressive 34 goals last term.

However, he penned a new deal at the Stadio San Paolo in May killing any hopes Wenger had of bringing him to England in the summer.

Napoli’s inclusion of a £27m buy-out clause could mean Arsenal go back in for him in January.

Diego Costa insists he has no bitterness towards anyone at Chelsea following his move back to Madrid.

He said: “I’m not upset with anybody. I have no bitterness towards anyone. Everything is cool."

The 28-year-old was then asked whether he had a message for the Chelsea support.

He responded: “Everybody knows how much I love the fans.”
