PSG want Alexis Sanchez to partner Neymar and Kylian Mbappe

The Chilean was a summer transfer target for Pep Guardiola's side but a deal failed to materialise after Arsene Wenger missed out on Monaco's Thomas Lemar.

Meanwhile, French giants PSG rocked the footballing world during the summer window by capturing Barcelona's Neymar and French prodigy Kylian Mbappe.

And Unai Emery's men may be about to rival City for Sanchez's signature in January, as they look to create a team capable of Champions League glory.

According to The Sun, a source revealed: “City’s pursuit of Alexis could be in trouble. Pep is sure he wants to join the club but Paris are sniffing.

“They still have the funds to sign him and can beat City’s wage offer. They will also pay him a huge signing on fee.

“Sanchez can talk to European clubs in January and sign a pre-contract. He’s in a very strong situation.”

The 28-year-old met with PSG chiefs in the French capital this summer, where both parties discussed a potential move to the club.

Neymar and Edinson Cavani had a bust-up over a PSG penalty

The deal broke down after the attacker demanded a whopping £400,000-a-week, which the Ligue 1 side admitted they could not afford to pay.

But PSG may be able to afford the sought-after playmaker if they offload striker Edison Cavani, who was recently involved in a bust-up with Neymar over who took a penalty.

Sanchez's contract expires at the end of the season, and with the player looking to leave North London, clubs will be able to battle for his signature in the New Year.

The Chilean played 90 minutes for Arsenal in the Carabao Cup win over Doncaster on Wednesday.

He could keep his place for Monday's Premier League clash at home to West Brom.
