That is according to ex-Chelsea forward Chris Sutton.

London rivals Chelsea and Arsenal played out a goalless draw yesterday at Stamford Bridge.

The Gunners put in a dogged display to frustrate the Blues and take a point back to the Emirates.

But shortly before the final whistle, Luiz lost his cool and dived in recklessly on Kolasinac by the dugouts.

The Chelsea defender went in studs up after having to shrug off attention from Alexis Sanchez in the closing stages.

And Sutton believes that helped rattle Luiz enough to result in his poor challenge, which was definitely worth a sending off.

“That challenge by David Luiz was scandalous, he can have no complaints about his red,” Sutton wrote in his Daily Mail column.

“Luiz seemed irritated by Alexis Sanchez alongside him and lost his head when Sead Kolasinac went for the ball.

“He came off his feet and went over the top of the ball. In terms of dangerous play that ticks all the boxes. Michael Oliver won't have many easier decisions to make this season.”

Luiz escaped a similar punishment beforehand for a high foul in Arsenal’s penalty area.

And Sutton saw similarities to Liverpool star Sadio Mane’s red against Manchester City last week.

Sutton added: “Luiz had earlier been booked after his attempt to score from an overhead kick hit Laurent Koscielny in the hand.

“The force was every bit as great as Sadio Mane's high boot on Ederson, so why didn't Oliver show a red card?

“In my view, neither challenge warranted a red as both were honest attempts to play the ball.

“But there seems to be no clarity or consistency whatsoever from referees on this issue.”

Luiz will miss Chelsea’s matches with Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup and then Stoke and Manchester City in the Premier League.
