Man Utd v Everton: Romelu Lukaku celebrates his goal

Antonio Valencia, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Romelu Lukaku and Anthony Martial were all on target at Old Trafford as United made it four wins from five in the Premier League.

But despite the comprehensive scoreline, Neville was left underwhelmed by his former club’s display.

“It wasn’t a good performance, there’s a bit of a pattern building though in terms of getting in front and then being patient and waiting,” the Sky Sports pundit said.

“Sometimes they are even retreating a little bit with a couple of defensive substitutions and then the other team gets a little bit desperate, but then they score goals later on in the game.

Gary Neville: Man Utd legend says Red Devils didn't play well against Everton

“That’s happened two or three times now this season. I think Jose’s always renowned as being a patient coach, his team look like they have the maturity to be able to handle it.

“But there is a pattern building of a team finishing games off that they didn’t finish off last season.”

Neville added: “I think United looked like the team who played Thursday night and Everton the team that played on Tuesday.

“United in the second half didn’t get going for 35 minutes. They were drifting through the game, not really giving enough.

“(Jesse) Lingard injected quite a bit of energy I thought, I thought the substitution of Lingard, it didn’t quite fall for him, but he did inject something."
