Barcelona turned down the chance to sign the Nice midfielder this summer.

Even though a deal was said to have been agreed with the player and club, Coutinho was prioritised.

The Catalan giants, though, could not persuade Liverpool to sell, meaning both Seri and Coutinho stayed put.

Spanish newspaper SPORT claim Barcelona are now planning to buy 26-year-old Seri in January.

A £36m agreement was in place, and sources at the Nou Camp have confirmed a deal could now happen.

However, SPORT add a return for Coutinho has not been ruled out by Barcelona either.

The La Liga club bid as high as £118m during the recent transfer window and saw the Brazilian hand in a transfer request.

While Liverpool held firm this summer, it remains to be seen if Coutinho gets his dream switch in mid-season.

Ivory Coast international Seri is apparently disappointed over being snubbed at the last minute for pursuits of Coutinho and Angel Di Maria.

But he would still sign for Barcelona in January as he is desperate to play for Ernesto Valverde’s side.

Coutinho, meanwhile, may return to action for Liverpool tonight when they welcome Sevilla to Anfield in the Champions League (7.45pm).
