And Wayne Rooney has now revealed the players most likely to be on the end of the Scot’s infamous tirades - himself and Ryan Giggs.

Ferguson called it quits in 2013 after a 26-and-a-half-year spell in charge of United.

And that decision brought an end to an incredible stint which saw the Red Devils win 13 Premier League titles, the Champions League twice and nine more major trophies.

Aside from on-field success, Ferguson’s no-nonsense approach to management earned him plenty of plaudits during his time at Old Trafford.

Sir Alex Ferguson often took aim at Manchester United hero Ryan Giggs, Wayne Rooney says

Rooney says he and Giggs bore the brunt of Ferguson’s anger most of all because he knew it’d have the required effect.

Rooney told talkSPORT: "That happened with me and Giggsy more than anyone.

"We were the players he had a go at most. But he knew when he had a go at us two, the characters we were meant we would go out and improve."

Rooney holds no grudges against his old boss though and went on to praise him.

He added: "He was the best but he never complicated anything. Nowadays sometimes there is a bit too much information, too much thought going into it. Sometimes all you need is ‘You’re better than them, go and win it’.

"He had the balance right and his man-management was second to none. He knew the players he could have a go at and those he needed to put his arm round."
