Hornets boss Silva landed Dutch defender Marvin Zeegelaar for £3m on deadline day and took Udinese pair Molla Wague and Orestis Karnezis on loan.

The triple swoop took Silva’s signings to a staggering 13 in a little over three months after arriving at Vicarage Road.

Silva spent in the region of £50m revamping the struggling squad he inherited from Walter Mazzarri.

And Watford new boy Zeegelaar, who joined from Sporting Lisbon, believes he has joined a club on the up.

He said: “I’ve good stories about the club and the manager. It’s an exciting project to be part of.

“I almost joined Hull last season when Marco was the manager there.

“So I’m happy to get my chance now with him and I want to help the club progress.

“It was too good an opportunity not to play in the Premier League.”
