Dutch sources have told the Daily Star Sunday that Holland’s top club were prepared to sell him for 25m – £22.6m.

Tottenham also want Valencia’s Joao Cancelo as competition for Kieran Trippier.

The Sun say the Toon want the Arsenal star on board, but face plenty of competition domestically and abroad, including from Italian giants Juventus.

“It’s difficult now as he doesn’t want to be there, Liverpool is one of the biggest clubs in the world but he doesn’t want to be there.

“You can sell him for £90million so what’s the best for the club?

“Take the money, he doesn’t want to stay anymore and £90m is good money, incredible money.”

He told 5Live: “It is going to get messy because the player wants to leave and inevitably what will probably happen [is] he will probably either fake injury or just say, ‘Look, I’m not available for this club right now so you need to take this money’.

“The club have given him almost nowhere to move.

“If this was done in a situation where people [at Liverpool] would say remain professional, and obviously he’d continually train, be playing his football and be out there playing in a Liverpool shirt and what will be will be.

“The problem is with Barcelona, are they ever going to come back?

“If they go out there and find somebody else that chance has gone.

“He’ll be looking at this from a players’ perspective going, ‘This is my opportunity, I’ve given everything I can for Liverpool Football Club, this is my one chance to get to Barcelona and I’m going to do whatever it takes to get there'."

00:30am: Manchester United will pay no more than £90m for Gareth Bale.

He was expected to be the man to make way for Monaco sensation Kylina Mbappe.

However, the prodigal Frenchman looks to be heading towards Paris St-Germain.

"It's not something urgent, it's nothing that you are desperate to have it done or not done.

"I just think that he was very clear by showing that what he did last year was not enough for him. He thinks he can do more.

"He wants more at football's highest level, so we are having conversations and we are discussing the possibility of him staying with us for the second part of the season."
