Virgil van Dijk will join Liverpool, Stuart Pearce has claimed.

The Reds are favourites to sign the Southampton star despite publicly apologising to the Saints earlier this summer after an alleged illegal approach.

Van Dijk has now handed in a transfer request and Pearce said on Sky Sports: "I think he's an outstanding central defender, I think he'll end up at Liverpool.

"I think it might take a couple of weeks to get over the line.

"It's a disappointing situation for Southampton, there's no doubt about that but I think movement will happen with Van Dijk.

"He's certainly one of the best centre-halves available at present in this country. I think he will end up at Liverpool."

Liverpool have told Barcelona they will sell Philippe Coutinho.

But, according to TransferMarketWeb, they are demanding £82m plus Andre Gomes.

Barcelona have targeted Coutinho as a replacement for Neymar, who last week defected to Paris St-Germain.

Liverpool are reluctant to lose Coutinho but speculation is growing that he will move to the Nou Camp.

Gomes only joined Barcelona from Valencia last summer but struggled to make a mark in his maiden campaign.

A string of Championship clubs are interested in promising midfielder Yan Dhanda.

The Daily Mail claim Bristol City, Leeds and Nottingham Forest fancy taking the 18-year-old on loan.

Dhanda joined Liverpool from West Brom at the age of 14 and signed a professional contract two years ago.

Jurgen Klopp promoted Dhanda to his first-team squad earlier this year on the advice of assistant coach Pep Lijnders.
