Barcelona can only afford to buy Philippe Coutinho if they sell Neymar, Guillem Balague has claimed.

He says the Catalan outfit already have an agreement in place with the Liverpool star's agent.

But any deal would reportedly rely on Neymar sealing a big-money move away from the Nou Camp.

"Barcelona contacted Mbappe and have an agreement with Coutinho’s agent," tweeted Balague.

"But Liverpool are determined not to sell. Barca need Neymar’s money for anything.

"Everything Barca are doing now smells of desperation. They have been reactive (not proactive) for too long. Even Mbappe contact arrives late.

"The offer Barca took to Liverpool for Coutinho (€80m) is something they cannot pay if in an unexpected twist Neymar decides to stay.”

Meanwhile the Reds and Everton are interested in signing Max Kruse, according to reports in Italy.

Kruse, 29, only joined Werder Bremen last summer, arriving in a £6m deal from Wolfsburg.

And the forward returned from injury to play a starring role for his new club, bagging 15 goals in 24 appearances across all competitions.

Il Messaggero claim Liverpool and Everton could battle Lazio for his signature.

They suggest a bid of around £13m could do the trick.

Finally, Dean Saunders reckons Real Madrid star Isco is one of several players who could replace Coutinho at Anfield.

He told talkSPORT: “£100m sell him.

“For me, he's replaceable. You could sign Isco for £30million. He's not going to get a game at Real Madrid.

“Juan Mata, Sigurdsson - there are players you could sign to replace Coutinho.

“(Luis) Suarez was irreplaceable. Certain players are irreplaceable.

“I like Coutinho. The last game I watched he was brilliant but £100million? Once they knock the door as a player he's gone."
