The RB Leipzig winger has been linked to the Red Devils as a potential £44.6m alternative to Inter Milan's Ivan Perisic.

Yesterday Italian outlet Calcio Mercato said Jose Mourinho had contacted Fosberg’s lawyer about a potential bid.

Forsberg has been linked with a number of clubs including AC Milan who are undergoing a staggering revolution at the moment.

The Sweden international had previously described the AC Milan revamp as 'fantastic' and an 'interesting project'.

Asked about those comments, Forsberg said: “I only answered a journalist's question.

"I would have given the same answer for Bayern Munich.

“Milan is one of the biggest clubs in the world, along with Real [Madrid], Barcelona or Manchester United.”

“Would those comments upset Leipzig? Why should it?

"What bad things did I say about Leipzig? Nothing."

Leipzig director Ralf Rangnick has insisted none of their big stars will leave this summer after a sterling campaign last term.

Last month he told Bild: "We're not thinking about selling our best players this summer.

"There's no red line for us. We will keep our team and improve it in several positions."

Forsberg's agent, Hasan Cetinkaya, also claimed that 'it might be time' for the ex-Malmo ace 'to test himself at one of the big clubs'.

On Cetinkaya's comments, Rangnick added: "Those are Christmas wishes in the summer.

"We have twice already adjusted the contract of Emil."
