Arsenal are eyeing a move for Schalke midfielder Leon Goretzka, it has been claimed.

Italian journalist Emanuele Giulianelli reckons Arsene Wenger would rather sign the 22-year-old than Barcelona star Rafinha.

He told Tribal Football: “Disregard the Rafinha rumours, Arsenal fans. I can confirm that Leon Goretzka is the real target.

“The Schalke 04 player is of great interest for Arsene Wenger, but at the present moment the German club don't want him to leave.

“Rafinha, of Barcelona, is only a second choice and Arsenal management are not so convinced about this option."

Meanwhile the Gunners have entered the race to sign Ross Barkley from Everton, according to the latest odds.

Ronald Koeman yesterday revealed the England international is seeking a move away from Goodison Park.

And bookies Betway reckon Arsenal are set to battle Tottenham for his signature.

“With Arsenal priced out of a number of high-profile targets this summer, the betting suggests their attention has turned to Ross Barkley with the Everton midfielder now 3/1 to join the Gunners in this transfer window,” Betway’s Alan Alger said.

“Barkley looked set to join Spurs this summer but they’ve drifted from 8/11 to 4/5, while a move to Manchester United certainly shouldn’t be ruled out at 8/1 with Mourinho a long-time admirer of the Evertonian.

“Meanwhile, a dramatic U-turn to stay at the Toffees has drifted to 5/1 from 13/8 as he edges closer to the exit door.”

Finally, reports in France claim Arsenal have "real interest" in signing Nice star Jean-Michael Seri.

Roma appeared to be closing in on a deal for the Ivorian midfielder but L’Equipe claim they are refusing to meet his release clause of around £36m.

Instead the Emirates is now said to be his most likely destination.

L’Equipe reckon the Gunners could ramp up their interest after Nice's Champions League qualifier against Ajax.
