United have been negotiating with Inter Milan bosses since the end of last season without being able to strike a deal.

But Jose Mourinho remains determined to sign the Croatian international and has ordered United chiefs to thrash something out with their Italian counterparts.

Inter have been less than impressed with United’s dogged pursuit of Perisic.

Boss Luciano Spalletti is desperate to keep him with the Serie A giants and ordered Perisic to join up with the rest of his squad for a pre-season training camp in Riscone di Brunico.

Spalletti is preparing his squad to fly to China next week to take part in the International Champions Cup.

But he could be facing a losing battle to stop the winger from joining United.

United remain determined to land Perisic before Inter travel to China and want him to join them in America instead.

Inter are holding out for a fee in the region of £55m, while United value him closer to the £45m mark.

But United are confident a compromise deal can be reached and are expected to tempt Inter with a £50m bid they expect to be accepted.

Meanwhile, Alvaro Morata will get a glimpse of what might have been as Real Madrid and United are sharing the same pre-season facilities in Los Angeles.

Chelsea, who lost out on Romelu Lukaku, is a possible destination for Morata.
