Jose Mourinho has made signing the Real Madrid striker a priority after cooling his interest in Antoine Griezmann and losing out to Chelsea for Romelu Lukaku.

Starsport understand Morata has told Real chiefs he wants to leave the Bernabeu after a disappointing campaign that saw him start just 19 games in all competitions.

United are willing to offer £61.5m for Morata, according to El Bernabeu, but that is well below his £79m (€90m) valuation.

However, the Spanish website claim that Real could drop their asking price to £70m (€80m) in order to strike a deal.

United hope to have him snapped up before jetting off on their pre-season tour of the United States of America on July 9.

Morata is currently on his honeymoon and is keeping track of developments on his future.

The 24-year-old scored 20 goals last term despite his limited action and Zinedine Zidane recently attempted to persuade him to stay.

But Mourinho has convinced the Spain international that he will be a key player in his team.

United are reluctant to bid more than their current offer but El Bernabeu claim that there is no way back into the fold for Morata.

According to Spanish paper AS, Morata is very close to becoming a United player.
