Sanchez has been one of the stand-out players during Arsenal’s impressive start to the campaign.

But the Chile star was visibly upset when he was taken off during the recent meetings with Swansea and Ludogrets.

Gunners boss Wenger, though, insists no member of his squad is exempt from his efforts to keep them fresh and injury free.

“For me he is not a special case,” said Wenger. “He is a player like everybody else.

“When I decide to take him off, I take him off. There is no special case.

Arsene Wenger knows Alexis Sanchez wants to keep playing for Arsenal, even when not fully fit

“He has his own character but he is not treated differently from everybody else.

“We test the fatigue level of everybody. For example I tested Sanchez because he played two games in South America and sometimes I rest him straight away after.

“I played him the other day against Swansea so I thought I would take him off when it is possible. We consider every case individually and as well, some positions are more demanding.”

Arsene Wenger wants Alexis Sanchez to focus on being more of an out-and-out striker for Arsenal
Arsene Wenger says he carries out fatigue tests on his Arsenal stars

Sanchez was crocked for two months last season when he picked up a hamstring injury at Norwich – after telling his manager he felt fit to play despite feeling a niggle a few days earlier.

“All the players recognise they are tired after the game but during the game they want to stay on the pitch,” said Wenger.

“There is a difference between acknowledging it and wanting to stay on the pitch. You want to play even when you are tired.”

David Moyes' Sunderland side are the next opposition for Arsenal

Sanchez has struck six goals this season and will lead the attack at bottom side Sunderland as the Gunners attempt to bounce back from last weekend’s home stalemate with Middlesbrough.

And Wenger believes he has shown he is ready to make the switch from wide man to central striker.

“I see him there, because he is the kind of guy who can make things happen,” said Wenger. “He has a good technique and can always create something.

“He has a good mixture between scoring and giving the final ball. In my taste, he still comes too much to the ball, because Alexis Sanchez likes to have the ball.

“We have enough playmakers in our team and we want him to have more balance in his play. We do not want to forbid him to come to the ball, but to get in a bit more off the ball runs."
