However uproar has flared on social media after people were found to be trying to make a profit on these free items by selling the memorabilia on eBay.

One of the most expensive items on the online site was £100 for the complete collection.

On eBay there is about two pages worth of the items available to buy at a range of prices.

One Twitter user said: 'Seen there's some "fans" selling the Munich Air Disaster free mementos the club left strapped to seats on eBay. Scum.. how you can call yourself a fan is beyond me! Sums up modern football.'

Another user wrote: 'Hope United ban anybody selling their free Munich programme and book from Saturday.'

It will be 60 years to the day since the tragedy that took the lives of United players Geoff Bent, Roger Byrne, Eddie Colman, Mark Jones, David Pegg, Tommy Taylor and Billy Whelan. Duncan Edwards lost his fight for life in hospital 15 days later.

Three United staff — secretary Walter Crickmer, trainer Tom Curry and coach Bert Whalley — were also killed along with two plane crew, eight journalists and two other passengers.

The young team, nicknamed the Busby Babes, were on their way back from 3-3 draw away to Red Star Belgrade which was enough to send them into the semi-final of the European Cup. The plane had stopped in Germany for refuelling.

Tuesday's service will include a minute's silence at 3.04pm, the exact time of the disaster.
