Manchester United chiefs in talks with fan groups in drive to improve atmosphere at 'quiet' Old Trafford
- Jose Mourinho described Old Trafford as 'quiet' following win over Huddersfield
- Club officials have held talks with MUST over how to improve the atmosphere
- They say executive seating and family seats take up too much of Stretford End
Manchester United chiefs held a meeting with fans about the increasingly sterile Old Trafford atmosphere last week and are set for further talks later this month.
While it’s accepted that noise levels are a problem throughout the Premier League, there is ongoing concern with the issues at United.
That was amplified by Jose Mourinho criticising the ‘quiet’ home support after Saturday’s 2-0 victory over Huddersfield Town.
Jose Mourinho criticised the lack of atmosphere at Old Trafford during their latest win
Board members had sat with the Manchester United Supporters’ Trust (MUST) last week to discuss a number of potential solutions.
Those will also be brought up during a fans’ forum scheduled for February 23, with some believing the make-up of the Stretford End represents a significant worry.
It is argued that executive seating and a family enclosure take up too big a proportion of that stand, historically known as the raucous end of the stadium.
MUST believes a breakdown in relationship between fans and owners is partly to blame
Ticketing – particularly pricing in the Stretford End - was also debated with MUST, as well as potential stadium expansion.
‘It's not Portsmouth,’ Mourinho said. ‘I remember Portsmouth - such a small stadium, the atmosphere was absolutely incredible.
'In here, the atmosphere is a bit quiet. But the players like to play at home.’
