Manchester City confirm pre-season tour to the US as Pep Guardiola and his side head for New York following their successful trip in 2017

  • New York is confirmed as one of the stops, with Benjamin Mendy there this week
  • Guardiola says he has an idea of new signings who could be joining him in the US

Manchester City are heading to New York this summer as part of their pre-season tour of America.

Pep Guardiola’s side are looking at other eastern cities ahead of the July jaunt, which suggests another friendly against rivals Manchester United – who are set for California - is unlikely.

It will be the second consecutive season City have travelled to the US under Guardiola, who was pleased with the facilities Stateside last year.

A return to China, the destination of the ill-fated 2016 tour, had previously been on the cards but the International Champions Cup is not scheduled this time.

The success of last summer was a major factor, with City enjoying time in Los Angeles, Houston and Nashville.

New York is a confirmed stop on the tour, with defender Benjamin Mendy over there meeting supporters this week before attending the SuperBowl in Minneapolis on Sunday.

City will check in with sister club New York City – managed by former midfielder Patrick Vieira – although it is unknown whether that will involve a match given the MLS season will be in full swing.

Guardiola claimed he has already estimated who will join him following the World Cup final on July 15. ‘I have a little idea who will join us in the States but we'll see,’ he said.
