Roma rejected a move for Manchester United utility man Daley Blind last month despite being offered the Dutch international.
The Serie A club's technical director Monchi insists any potential deal was not financially viable.
The Italian club were seeking a replacement for left-back Emerson Palmieri after he joined Chelsea this week, but opted for Jonathan Silva instead.

And Monchi insists the Argentine was always the preferred candidate instead of Blind.
'We talked with Jonathan Silva even before the window opened, in expectation of Emerson leaving,' Monchi told reporters in Italy.
'Blind was offered to us three or four days ago, but we decided he was not the right player, even from an economic point of view, which is important.'

Emerson completed a £17.5m move to Stamford Bridge on Tuesday before watching their 3-0 home defeat by Bournemouth from the stands the next day.

Blind has featured just 15 times so far this season for United, and made only five Premier League appearances.
