It has been a manic day in English football with records being set in the transfer market and the football pitch, so don't feel bad if you missed some of the quirkier events.

Manchester United looked rather silly when Chrisitan Eriksen gave Tottenham the lead after just 11 seconds. But it soon turned out that it was in fact the match officials who should have been red-faced.

Replays appeared to show Harry Kane encroaching into Manchester United's half before the game had kicked off. He ended up winning the header that led to the goal.

Manchester United fans were going mad on social media, posting a host of unrepeatable messages aimed at Andre Marriner. 

Then again, the same replay appears to show Jesse Lingard doing exactly the same thing in Tottenham's half... so what is a referee to do?

Play on...obviously.

Guardiola consoles Sterling after horror miss 

We all know Pep Guardiola is passionate about all things football — just ask Nathan Redmond! 

But it was still a surprise to see the Spaniard take his relationship with Raheem Sterling to the next level in full view of the Etihad Stadium crowd.

After missing an absolute sitting in their match against West Brom, Guardiola summoned the England international to the touchline. 

Instead of a dressing down, Sterling was told to pucker up.

Ledley King still holds that record with a rapid 10-second strike against Bradford in 2000, but another marker fell at Wembley Stadium on Wednesday night: the biggest ever attendance.

The 81,978 people crammed into watch Tottenham beat Wembley eclipsed the previous record of 80,827, which was set just three months ago for their game against Liverpool.

With a north London derby against Arsenal coming up on February 10, don't expect that mark to last long.

Man City hit century for the season

Manchester City's 3-0 win over West Brom saw them surpass 100 goals for the season across all competitions.

The century of goals has become a marker for all great attacking sides in English football, and City have proven to be among the greatest after reaching the mark in January... albeit only just!

Sergio Aguero has done more work than anyone with 24 goals while Raheem Sterling has a very respectable 19.

But with five players all with over 10 goals this season, their demolition job has been very much a team effort!
