The 20-year-old, who can play in defence and midfield, has joined the Championship club until the end of the season as they chase promotion to the Premier League.

Birmingham weigh up loan swoop for West Brom's Sam Field

LAURIE WHITWELL: Birmingham are interested in taking West Bromwich Albion midfielder Sam Field on loan.

Steve Cotterill is exploring ways of strengthening his team in the fight for Championship survival and the 19-year-old is on his list.

Alan Pardew is reluctant to let Field out this month with West Brom aiming for Premier League safety but he may sanction a temporary move if signings are made.

Field has emerged into the West Brom first team picture this season, performing superbly at Wembley against Tottenham and scoring in the draw with Newcastle.  

But he has only made three appearances since the start of December and may be allowed out to get games.

It is thought a number of other Championship clubs have made enquiries.

With the transfer saga dragging on, even Borussia Dortmund fans are becoming impatient for the striker to leave.

SIMON JONES: Liverpool are signing Falkirk teenager Tony Gallacher, the left-back once coveted by Barcelona, for £250,000.

Gallacher has been followed by Liverpool for over a year but Swansea City had been considered frontrunners for his signature prior to Christmas.

However, Liverpool s invited him down for training last week and he impressed staff suitably for an offer to go in.

Joao Mario ready to travel to West Ham on Friday for medical

SIMON JONES: Inter Milan winger Joao Mario will arrive in London for a medical on Friday after agreeing to join West Ham United on loan.

Productive talks were held between the clubs on Wednesday after it initially looked like the move would fall through.

The Italian side have agreed to loan the Portugal international to West Ham for around £1.2million with view to a permanent £26million deal in the summer.

The 25-year-old has agreed on the move to the London Stadium after speaking with his agent and West Ham manager David Moyes.

Mario has over 30 caps for Portugal and won the European Championships with his country in 2016. He cost Inter £36million when he moved from Sporting Lisbon that year.
