Manchester United face a challenge to retain U20 England World Cup-winning goalkeeper Dean Henderson amid interest from a host of clubs at home and abroad, including Chelsea and Arsenal.

Henderson, who has impressed greatly on loan at Shrewsbury in League One this season, has six months remaining on his Manchester United contract. He is now free to talk to European clubs and scouts from Benfica, Roma and Olympiacos have registered an interest.

United are understood to be keen to retain the 20-year-old goalkeeper, who was part of England's U20 World Cup winning squad last summer. He has since been promoted into the U21 setup.

Henderson's long-term ambition is to be first-choice for club and country but he is realistic about the situation at Old Trafford, where David De Gea is set to sign a new deal.


United will hope to persuade Henderson to renew his contract, particularly with rivals such as Arsenal and Chelsea waiting in the wings. 

Watford are also interested, while a string of Championship clubs are also monitoring the situation.

Henderson's form has helped Shrewsbury transform from relegation favourites into promotion contenders under manager Paul Hirst. 

The club are second in League One with the second best defensive record in the division. Henderson has kept clean sheets in 14 of his 28 appearances for Shrewsbury this season.
