Sam Allardyce 'hugely disappointed' in professionalism of Everton players as he fumes at Tottenham thrashing: 'I think it's really out of order'

Sam Allardyce has slammed his Everton players' lack of professionalism following their 4-0 thrashing at Tottenham on Saturday.

The Toffees were the victims of their own downfall at times as they were dismantled by second half goals from Harry Kane and Christian Eriksen, with man of the match Heung-min Son opening the scoring in the first period.

Allardyce's side are now winless in their last five Premier League games and have lost their last three.

'Too many of our players decided to not defend any more when Tottenham had the ball with the quality of players they have, they will cut right through you,' Allardyce vented after the game.

'But for Jordan Pickford they could have had more, so I'm hugely disappointed in the professionalism of my players today.

'I think it's really out of order that you relinquish that responsibility just cos you've gone 2-0 down one minute into the second half… there's still another 44 minutes plus injury time to play, and play your way back into the game like you did in the first half.'

Everton, after recovering from a terrible start to the season under new boss Allardyce to move into the top half of the table, are struggling to find goals and equally struggling to keep them out at the other end.

Allardyce's side have scored just three goals in their last six outings, leaving Allardyce with some work to do.

He added: 'It shocked me to be honest, I haven't seen it since I got here. I've see it now and it probably was before I got here and I've got to cut it out, cut it out starting tomorrow.

'We are lacking our physical abilities at the moment, we haven't got a lot of pace in the side. Yannick (Bolasie) is still coming back from an injury, James McCarthy is the same, so we'll have to be a little patient.'

Allardyce handed their recent £27million Cenk Tosun his debut at Wembley, who he admitted still has a lot to learn about English football, but will hope the Turkish international will find the shooting boots that drew Everton to him In the first place.

Prior to his arrival, Tosun had scored 14 goals for Besiktas, including four in the Champions League. Allardyce will want, and needs, much more of that.

'I thought he was good and he's experienced a difficult game, and there won't be many more difficult ones to play away from home than against Tottenham' Allardyce said. 'Hopefully his ability and goalscoring ability will help us along the way, but we've got to get back to the basics defensively like I did when I first started.'
