Malcom, Yerry Mina and Vinicius... a guide to South America's new talent being unearthed by European giants

With the January transfer window 11 days old, clubs are fully into the swing of trying to make any mid-season additions.

South America is a footballing hotbed and it doesn't fail to deliver with their latest talent coming through the ranks.

Sportsmail takes a look at five players to watch out for from the continent.

Malcom

Club: Bordeaux; Age: 20; Nationality: Brazilian

The highly-rated Brazilian has shone in Ligue 1 thus attracting interest from Premier League giants Arsenal, Manchester United and Tottenham for the £45million-valued starlet.

Malcom can play on either wing or behind the forward and has scored seven goals in 19 appearances for Bordeaux in all competitions so far this season.

The Under 23 international took to Instagram on Saturday to share an image of himself learning English - heightening speculation that a move across the English Channel could be on the horizon.

Cristian Pavon

Club: Boca Juniors; Age: 21; Nationality: Argentine

With Alexis Sanchez looking set to leave the Emirates, Pavon has been identified as his possible replacement.

The forward, who is understood to have a £27m release clause, can play on either wing and as a secondary striker.

Similar in stature to Chilean Sanchez, Pavon is expected to be named in Argentina's World Cup squad for Russia.

Liverpool, Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain and Inter Milan have all been following his progress in recent months too.

Vinicius

Club: Real Madrid (on loan at Flamengo); Age: 17; Nationality: Brazilian

Real Madrid aren't afraid of making statement signings and last summer they did that once again with the announcement of Vinicius.

He is the seventh most expensive player in Real Madrid's history at £38m, and their most expensive teenager ever - with Real signing him as a 16-year-old.

Compared to compatriot Neymar and Real talisman Cristiano Ronaldo, Vinicius plays on the left looking to cut inside on his right foot.

Currently back at Flamengo on loan until the summer - he wants to continue developing there until the end of the year. He has played in 37 games and scored four goals for the Brazilian outfit, but hasn't started many games.

Yerry Mina

Club: Barcelona; Age: 23; Nationality: Colombian

The Spanish giants announced the £10.5m signing of the central defender on Thursday morning.

Mina has signed a five-and-a-half year deal and manager Ernesto Valverde will hope he proves a cornerstone at the back.

'He will bring a physical presence as his 1.95 metre frame suggests but he is also a quick, ball-playing defender,' Barcelona's website described their new signing as.

Having scored nine goals in 49 games for Palmeiras, their new defensive acquisition knows where the back of the net is too.

Douglas Luiz

Club: Manchester City (on loan at Girona); Age: 19; Nationality: Brazilian

Gabriel Jesus' arrival to Manchester City has proven an early success but the runaway Premier League leaders have another Brazilian attacking talent on their books as well.

Having joined from Vasco da Gama in a £10.7m deal last summer, Luiz was immediately loaned out to sister club Girona in La Liga.

A silky-skilled attacking midfielder he has already been earmarked for a place at the 2022 World Cup by Brazil boss Tite, should they qualify for Qatar.

'I have already seen him more than once and he delighted me,' said he said. 'I thought to myself: "this kid is very good. His touch with the ball, his passing..."'
