Paul Clement wants to make a swift return to management following his sacking by Swansea City.

The 45-year-old was axed on Wednesday night with the Welsh side lying bottom of the table, four points adrift of safety.

In a statement, Clement spoke of his 'great sadness' at leaving the job and said: 'When I arrived at Swansea City on the 3rd of January, the team had 12 points and were bottom of the league.

'Together we managed to achieve 29 points in 19 games, culminating in a 15th place finish and ensuring the club would compete in the Premier League for a seventh consecutive year. It was by far my proudest and greatest achievement as a coach.

'However, this season, in very challenging circumstances I was unable to replicate the positive results.'

The Swans have made long-serving midfielder Leon Britton, who last month became a player-coach at the Welsh club, caretaker manager and he will be in charge for Saturday's Premier League home match against Crystal Palace.

With Clement's axing Swansea are now searching for their third manager in the space of a year

Swansea are begun the searching for their third manager in the space of a year after sacking Clement in a desperate bid to save their season following a dismal run of eight defeats in 10 games.

Former Everton manager Ronald Koeman has been sounded out in an ambitious move. It is understood former boss Roberto Martinez, who is currently managing the Belgian national side, has been sounded out too in what would be a stunning move, albeit one that is unlikely before the World Cup.

It is also believed that contact has been made with Koeman, while Frank de Boer, Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic and Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder have supporters at the club. Sources insist no move is planned for Tony Pulis.
