Eddie Howe fears Jermain Defoe has suffered ankle ligament damage with the Bournemouth striker facing a potential layoff.
Defoe was injured in the Cherries’ Carabao Cup quarter-final loss to Chelsea when 17-year-old Ethan Ampadu committed a late challenge less than two minutes into the match.
With Manchester City next in the Premier League, losing Defoe could be a big loss in Bournemouth’s fight for survival and the club will send him for scans.

‘Potentially some damage to his ankle ligaments,’ Howe said.
‘Personally, I didn't see the challenge on Defoe was a red card. My gut feeling was a yellow, but obviously we lost Jermain.
‘It's been a bizarre week for us. We went to Manchester United and were really proactive, Liverpool was poor, then we played so well here. We leave positive, but we have Manchester City next.’
Harry Arter was also forced off with a calf problem.
