Nigel Adkins close to being appointed Hull City manager as Tigers hold more talks with ex-Sheffield United boss

  • Hull sacked Leonid Slutsky and are expected to name new boss in coming days
  • Nigel Adkins has not managed since leaving Sheffield United in May 2016 
  • He was on Hull's list to replace Marco Silva when he left for Watford in summer

Hull City have held further talks with Nigel Adkins as they close on appointing their next manager.

The Championship club, who sacked Leonid Slutsky, are expected to make a decision in the next 24 hours.

The 52-year-old Adkins has not managed since leaving Sheffield United in May 2016 but was on Hull's provisional list to replace Marco Silva when he left for Watford in the summer.

However, they opted to appoint Slutsky after recommendations from Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich.


Slutsky, who was at Old Trafford to watch former club CSKA Moscow on Tuesday, could now be poised for a role at Stamford Bridge.

Adkins, who has managed Southampton and Reading in the Premier League, would likely bring Andy Crosby in as his assistant.
