Arsenal 1-3 Manchester United, RESULT: Jesse Lingard double downs Gunners despite Paul Pogba red card in pulsating Emirates Stadium clash

The scoreline makes it look like Arsenal have been brought back down to earth, but it really doesn't tell the story of the game.

United deserve full credit for being ever so clinical. But Arsene Wenger will be pondering how his side have lost having had 33 shots on goal. One clue would be David de Gea - he was sublime between the sticks for the Red Devisl today.

90+3min: Operation kill time for Jose Mourinho as Ashley Young makes a slow walk off the pitch to be replaced by Marcus Rashford. The Red Devils look like they have done enough now to steal three points from the Emirates Stadium.

90+1min: We are into five added minutes of what will at the very least be one of the top three games of this season - maybe even the best come May. It's hard to see how this can be topped. There hasn't been one lull.

88min: Arsenal are denied a penalty kick as Danny Welbeck is blatantly tripped by Herrera inside the box, which leads to a yellow card for Alexis Sanchez who is booked for his protests. United have got away with that.

87min: Superb play from Lukaku. Every Manchester United player apart from the striker is defending within the Red Devils box, so the the former Everton hitman is living off long balls.

The rare one he gets sees him out muscles Laurent Koscielny who then brings down the striker to concede a free-kick and pick up a yellow card.

85min: Welbeck again gets involved but he can only head over a Ramsey cross. Respite for about no more than 20 seconds for United.

83min: Half-chance for Arsenal as Welbeck's deflected effort from the edge of the box is tipped over the bar. United clear the corner as rain falls at the Emirates Stadium.

80min: Arsenal are totally camped inside the Manchester United half now. Mourinho's men are set up like a non-League team defending a lead against a giant killer in a Cup tie. They are ever so deep.

Can United really keep Arsenal out defending like this for another ten minutes? It's one way traffic.

77min: Arsenal now have one less black shirt to break through as Olivier Giroud comes on to replace Sead Kolasinac to add height.

Manchester United send on Matteo Darmian for Lingard.

74min: Madness. Total madness from Paul Pogba who is sent off for a stupid stamp on Hector Bellerin. He will now miss the derby against Manchester City through suspension.

73min: Arsenal are taking a few risks now, with Hector Bellerin chopping down Ashley Young to prevent a counter attack.

70min: Before it's taken though, Arsenal make a second change as Welbeck replaces holding midfielder Granit Xhaka.

The Gunners clear the set-piece.

69min: The lesser spotted Manchester United free-kick in the Arsenal half as Mesut Ozil chops down Herrera about 40 yards out.

67min: Jose Mourinho beefs up his midfield as he sends on Herrera for Anthony Martial. Danny Welbeck is getting ready to come on for Arsenal against his former club.

66min: The home fans for the first time this evening have lost their voices a bit but the Gunners still pile forward as De Gea saves well again. It's not over yet.

63min: Ridiculous. This game is ridiculous. Manchester United have looked all over the place and yet they have punished Arsenal on the counter attack for the third time in this match.

Jesse Lingard releases Paul Pogba into the box, who holds off Arsenal defenders before squaring across the face of goal for his team-mate to tap home.

61min: Play resumes after Nemanja Matic received treatment for a head injury. Arsene Wenger senses goals as he sends his strikers to warm up.

58min: Jose Mourinho has seen enough as he sends Ander Herrera to warm up. Arsenal win a free-kick out on the right as Marcos Rojo is booked for a foul on Sanchez. Manchester United are getting battered, to the point I still think Arsenal will win this game.

55min: Ten minutes into the second period and it's like the first half never ended. De Gea now saves well from Lacazette before somehow kicking the ball away to deny Sanchez on the rebound.

Manchester United's defence is looking like a total shambles.

52min: This game, honestly. What's next?! Jesse Lingard breaks through before on-one-one with Cech the keeper deflects it off the post, with Anthony Martial's followup blocked on the line.

Arsenal then go straight down the other end and nearly equalise with Lacazette's powerful 20-yard drive well beaten away by De Gea.

49min: It's been coming and this is a brilliant goal. Alexis Sanchez finds Aaron Ramsey inside the box with a chipped pass, with the midfielder laying the ball back for Alexandre Lacazette to smash home. The United defence? Still as statues.

With all the chances from the first half, I almost forgot to inform you that the Gunners had switched to a back four following Mustafi's injury.

From Wenger's point of view it's surely more of the same from the first half (save for defensive errors), while Mourinho will demand a more oragnised defence in the second period.

So when was the last time you saw a home team trail 2-0 at half-time having had 15 shots on goal?

I'm still scratching my head over how Alexandre Lacazette didn't score in that first period. Just look at his heat map and how much of the ball he has had inside the Manchester United box.

We know Manchester United invite pressure away from home, but even Jose Mourinho will be fuming at his side's defending from that first period with Arsenal carving open the Red Devils time and time again.

How the Gunners haven't scored is one of the mysteries of the weekend so far. Another 45 minutes like that and I'd even go as far as saying Arsenal would run out winners.

As is it though, United's clinical play on the counter attack sees them hold a 2-0 lead at the break in an astonishing game.

45+2min: This is astonishing. De Gea now saves from... Lukaku! The United striker ends up diverting the free-kick towards goal only for De Gea to claw the ball off the line with a fantastic stop, with Arsenal then somehow once more failing to bury the resulting loose ball.

45+1min: Three minutes are added on as Matic fouls Lacazette on the corner of the box. Time for more Arsenal chances.

44min: Arsenal are all over Manchester United now to the point even the Gunners full-backs are fancying their chances to score.

Hector Belelrin and Kolasinac try their luck from the edge of the box but De Gea is equal to both efforts.

42min: I'm not sure what United are playing at here defending from a corner. With all the players at the near post, the ball squirms loose for Aaron Ramsey at the back stick, whose shot deflects wide. United are going to get punished at some point.

39min: Can Arsenal grab a goal back before the break? Their performance deserves one but United have weathered the storm a bit as they enjoy a rare spell of possession on the ball.

36min: Arsenal have enjoyed 86 per cent of the ball in the last five minutes as they go close again. Mesut Ozil's powerfully struck volley on the edge of the box just lacks direction as it's low and straight at De Gea. Good effort though,

33min: But watch out for the United counter attack! Arsenal are leaving huge gaps at the back and after Romelu Lukaku escapes down the right he puts in a low cross into the box.

It's a poor one but Sead Kolasinac ends up diverting it towards his own goal, only for Cech to make a vital save.

32min: Absolutely incredible. How have Arsenal not scored here? Arsenal get lucky twice inside the box as the ball falls for Lacazette, but after his shot deflects off the crossbar Granit Xhaka somehow fires wide of the post.

30min: Mesut Ozil gets it over the wall but it lacks pace, so much so that Ashley Young can head clear in front of David de Gea who seemed to have it covered anyway.

29min: Another Arsenal chance as Alexis Sanchez is tripped right on the edge of the box by Marcos Rojo. Good chance for the Gunners this from a free-kick but is it slightly too close to get it up and over? Let's find out...

26min: Arsenal may have endured a horror start to this match but I can't see them failing to score this evening. Manchester United are not really convincing me at the back. Plenty of football top be played yet.

23min: Lingard receives treatment for a knock on the pitch and that gives Mourinho a chance to talk tactics with Paul Pogba.

From what I can make out he is simply saying that when United attack, only one of Pogba or Matic should be joining the attack, with the other sitting back to protect the defence.

20min: How has this not gone in?! At full stretch Alexandre Lacazette gets a toe to the ball inside the six-yard box only for David de Gea to make a save before a ricochet ends up with the ball trickling just wide of the post.

Arsenal may be 2-0 down but they are looking very dangerous.

18min: Cracking game at the Emirates Stadum. Arsenal force a corner from inside the six yard box, and Jose Mourinho is fuming at his side - or more specifically Nemanja Matic - after Arsenal hit Manchester United on the counter attack.

15min: Arsene Wenger finally makes a change as he sends on Alex Iwobi. I'm yet to see how Arsenal will shape up defensively.

13min: Mustafi has gone off injured following his calamitous error, but ARsenal look to respond on the attack despite having only ten men - briefly.

11min: A truly shocking error from Shkodran Mustafi! The defender hesitates on the ball before losing possession and allowing United to break.

9min: But Arsenal win a free-kick as Alexis Sanchez is hauled down by Chris Smalling 23 yards out. The Chile striker's set-piece though hits the wall before United clear.

7min: That goal really is the last thing Arsenal need. Manchester United are always happy to play on the back foot, now with a one-goal advantage they have even less incentive to counter attack and open up gaps at the back.

4min: What a start for Manchester United. Antonio Valencia intercepts a pass before combining with Paul Pogba, taking a return ball inside the box before slotting underneath Petr Cech. Brutal from the wing-back.

After a fast start to life at Manchester United following his club-record £75million move from Everton, the goals have dried up for Romelu Lukaku. 

The striker has just one goal in 11 appearances in all competitions, the fourth in United's 4-1 win over Newcastle where he absolutely blasted the ball in. 

How he would love to end that run this evening at the Emirates.

Passionate Gooner Sir Mo Farah was on the pitch earlier, hoping to inspire the Gunners to a huge victory in this evening's clash. 

And like Lacazette with Arsenal, Nemanja Matic's return means Jose Mourinho names the same XI which beat Watford 4-2 on Tuesday. 

Marcus Rojo, Chris Smalling and Victor Lindelof play in the three-man defence. Ashley Young continues his renaissance at left wing-back, with Antonio Valencia on the right.

Matic and Pogba play in central midfield. Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial provide support for Romelu Lukaku up front.  

Lacazette's shock inclusion mean it's an unchanged XI from the side which thrashed Huddersfield 5-0 on Wednesday evening. 

The Gunners line up with their usual three-man defence, Hector Bellerin and Sead Kolasinac as the wing backs. Granit Xhaka and Aaron Ramsey continue their partnership in central midfield.

And the formidable front three are back in action - Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez play just behind striker Lacazette. 

Is Alexandre Lacazette's inclusion part of Arsene Wenger's mind games as he prepares to lock horns once again with his old foe Jose Mourinho? 

After guaranteeing the striker's absence after the Huddersfield game, Lacazette features from the start at the Emirates this evening. 

Wenger did something similar in the previous match - ruling out Mesut Ozil for the Huddersfield clash immediately after the Burnley win. The German started against Hudderfield, scored and laid on two assists. 

Arsenal fans will be hoping for something similar from Lacazette this evening...

Alexandre Lacazette will start up front as he appears to have shaken off his groin injury despite Arsene Wenger confirming he would 'certainly' miss out on the clash. 

Manchester United have received a fitness boost of their own meanwhile, as Nemanja Matic starts in the centre of the park after shaking off a muscle injury in time to feature.

One intriguing subplot for the match is the future of Arsenal's Mesut Ozil.

The German's contract at the Emirates is set to expire in the summer and he has yet to reach an agreement over an extension.

And Manchester United have emerged as a potential destination for Ozil, with Jose Mourinho keen on a reunion with the creative midfielder after their spell together at Real Madrid.

If Arsenal are to keep that run of home wins going they'll probably have to do it without club-record signing and top goalscorer Alexandre Lacazette. 

After opening the scoring against Huddersfield, Lacazette was forced off at half time with a groin injury which is expected to see him out of action for this evening's encounter. 

Arsenal could opt for Danny Welbeck, Olivier Giroud or even Alexis Sanchez as a false nine to replace him so it will be intriguing to see which way they go. Over to you, Arsene.

Arsenal have won all their home matches so far this season, with Wednesday night's 5-0 thrashing of Huddersfield their 12th consecutive home win stretching back to last season. 

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has a remarkable record against his old foe Arsene Wenger but has lost out to the Arsenal manager twice in recent meetings. 

The last clash between these sides saw Arsenal come out on top winning 2-0 in May at the Emirates, though Mourinho named an under-strength for that game as he switched his focus on securing Champions League qualification through the Europa League.
