Roman Weidenfeller said the forward had 'done a stupid thing' and Peter Bosz was more damning, saying he had 'ruined everything'.

Aubameyang picked up a caution on the 55th minute for a trip before being given his marching orders on the 72nd minute after hauling down Gonzalo Castro. Schalke scored four goals in the final half an hour to grab a point off their distraught neighbours.

The Gabon star has suffered a number of disciplinary issues at the club and was recently suspended by Dortmund for turning up late to training.

Liverpool and Chelsea are two clubs understood to harbour an interest in the striker and will following the situation with interest.

Jurgen Klopp in particular is a known admirer of Aubameyang's raw pace which could compliment the rapid attacking threat of the Reds.

Despite the disciplinary problems, there is no doubting Aubameyang's talent with the deadly front-man having netted 56 league goals over the last two seasons.

Dortmund lie fifth in the Bundesliga, trailing leaders Bayern Munich by eight points and would still no doubt command a hefty fee for their star striker.
