Pep Guardiola has challenged Phil Foden to become a Manchester City great.
The 17-year-old made his debut in the slender victory against Feyenoord, becoming the first player born this millennium to play for City.
‘Phil knows that the club is there to support him but it depends on him,’ Guardiola said.

Foden looked composed as Guardiola called it a 'special day for the club'
‘He has to come and work every day and he knows we trust a lot with him and we are going to try.’
Foden’s emergence and a second competitive game for fellow academy graduate Brahim Diaz is a significant boost for City’s maligned youth system.

‘Today was a special day for all the club,’ Guardiola added. ‘I would like to say thank you to all the club for working over the last years very very hard in the academy.
‘If the result had been more clear, they would have got more minutes. They are young talents but our squad is not too big so we will see what happens.
‘Hopefully they can stay for a long time and help to develop the club.’
