Manchester City lining up move for Leicester's Riyad Mahrez in January amid Chelsea and Arsenal interest

  • Spanish press report Pep Guardiola is keeping a close eye on Riyad Mahrez
  • The Premier League leaders are looking to add depth to an already strong squad
  • The Algerian has been linked with Arsenal and Chelsea over the past few months

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is eyeing a move for Leicester winger Riyad Mahrez in the January transfer window.

The Algerian continues to be linked with a move away from the King Power Stadium after failing to secure one during the summer.

And Spanish outlet Don Balon claim the Premier League leaders have their sights set on recruiting the 26-year-old, as they look to add depth to an already strong squad.

Guardiola is seeking a replacement for Spanish winger Jesus Navas, who returned to Sevilla in August after a four-year spell in Manchester.

And the City boss was seen having a brief chat with Mahrez following his team's 2-0 victory over the Foxes on Saturday.

Mahrez was the subject of interest from Barcelona following his fine displays during Leicester's shock title-winning campaign but a move never materialised.

He has since been linked with both Arsenal and Chelsea but insisted he was 'settled' at his current club last week despite attempting to leave during the transfer window.

'I am settled, I've always been settled,' the Algeria captain said. 'Of course I wanted a new challenge, but it didn't happen and that's okay.

'I wasn't disappointed for myself because I love this club and I have been through everything with this club.

'We won the League, we were in the Champions League and we got safety in the last two games in our first year in the Premier League.

'I went from the Championship to the Premier League and Champions League with this club – everything with this club! I am very confident here and I feel good.'
