Manchester United’s Ander Herrera insists he has a 'fantastic relationship' with Jose Mourinho despite being singled out for criticism by the manager after their disastrous 2-1 defeat at Huddersfield last weekend.
Mourinho took exception to the midfielder’s comments that Huddersfield were 'more passionate and aggressive than us', and responded: 'Herrera is in the interviews saying the attitude and desire was poor, my God. They should be in the press conference to explain.'
However, after pride was restored following a 2-0 win at Swansea in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night, the Spaniard was keen to draw a line under the apparent disconnect.
Ander Herrera says he shares a good relationship with Manchester United's Jose Mourinho
The Manchester United manager was angered by Herrera's comments at the weekend
'Everything he says I accept. I am a professional,' said Herrera. 'We have a fantastic relationship. So let’s look forward and think about Tottenham next Saturday.
'When you lose a game you want to play well as quickly as possible and we did at Swansea. We needed to get good feelings back.
'I just said what I said (after Huddersfield). The first 30 minutes they had a better attitude. Against Swansea, we controlled the game, very balanced, everyone pressing, everyone ready. That’s what we want every game.'
Herrera said Huddersfield had 'more passion' than his United side during the 2-1 defeat
This club is about titles and fighting for everything and we are still ion four competitions. So a very good feeling from tonight.
Jesse Lingard's two goals at The Liberty Stadium gives Mourinho a selection headache ahead of the weekend though Phil Jones is fit again to replace Victor Lindelof in defence.
The winners on Saturday will be considered Manchester City’s biggest threat in this season’s title race with both clubs currently five points behind Pep Guardiola’s men.
Herrera added: 'Tottenham are a real rival, they are contenders for everything, They took Liverpool apart at the weekend.
'They are very well organised, they play good football and they have players who can score – Eriksen, Dele Alli, Son, Harry Kane. Even the full-backs are very offensive.'
Herrera says Manchester United were never going to win every game 4-0 this season
