Sergio Aguero is hoping for an opportunity to break Manchester City’s all-time goalscoring record at the Etihad on Tuesday night.
Pep Guardiola has hinted at wholesale changes for the Carabao Cup fourth round tie against Wolves – City’s fourth game in 10 days – but has also said that Aguero is likely to feature at some point.
The Argentina star equalled Eric Brook’s record of 177 goals for the club when he scored from the penalty spot against Burnley at the weekend on his return from a broken rib.

Aguero’s bid to break the record was cut short when he was replaced by Gabriel Jesus in the 76th minute, but the Brazilian expects it will come sooner rather than later.
‘It’s a very important in a player’s career, especially for a striker, to score a lot of goals,’ said Jesus.
‘I support him and I hope he can beat the record as soon as possible. He deserves to become the top scorer of this club.’
Jesus is unlikely to play on Tuesday night and have the chance to extend a remarkable run that has seen him go unbeaten for almost a full calendar year playing for City, Palmeiras and Brazil.

The 20-year-old striker, who joined City for £27million in January, last tasted defeat on October 29 last year when Palmeiras lost 1-0 away to Santos.
He added: ‘I’m very happy to have been all this time without losing a game. But it’s not only me. It’s thanks to the teams and teammates I have played with at Palmeiras, the Brazilian national team and now Manchester City.’
Meanwhile, Bernardo Silva will not face disciplinary action from the FA over allegations that he dived to win the penalty that Aguero converted against Burnley.
The incident involving goalkeeper Nick Pope was referred to an independent three-man panel on Monday, but they could not reach the unanimous verdict required to impose a retrospective two-match ban.
