James Rodriguez's downward career spiral could continue in January with his loan from Real Madrid to Bayern Munich cancelled in favour of a switch to the USA, according to reports.

Spanish newspaper Don Balon say the Colombian is out of favour in Germany following the sacking of Carlo Ancelotti, who brought him to Bayern.

James had a good relationship with Ancelotti, but the Italian left the Bundesliga champions after an indifferent start to the season.

With his first team prospects under new manager Jupp Heynckes more uncertain, James could move on in January with MLS clubs among those interested.

James, who is on a two-year loan from Real, is also a target for AC Milan, Juventus and Inter Milan, say the reports in Spain.

Real would prefer James to stay in Europe if he stays out on loan rather than moving permanently, in order to guarantee more competitive football.

Staying this side of the Atlantic would also keep James' value higher, meaning Real could recoup more of the £67.5m they paid Monaco for him.

The forward has seen his star fall since his breakout performances for Colombia at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

He was a regular for Real under Ancelotti, who brought him to the Bernabeu in 2014, but fell out of favour under Zinedine Zidane.
