Bastian Schweinsteiger put his ice hockey skills to the test on Thursday night as the former Manchester United midfielder visited the Chicago Blackhawks.

Schweinsteiger, 33, sat in the stands as the Blackhawks lost 5-2 to Minnesota Wild, but he made a brief cameo on the ice to play 'Shoot the Puck' during an interval.

The Blackhawks invite a celebrity to take part in the half-time game at every home match, but they got two famous faces to take part on Thursday as Schweinsteiger was joined at United Center by singer Brandon Lay.

Both men tried their hand at shooting, with sports star Schweinsteiger naturally more impressive.

Former Germany captain Schweinsteiger struggled to settle at Old Trafford but he looks very much at home in the US six months after joining Chicago Fire.

After being plagued by fitness issues at United, he has already played 24 MLS games for his new team, who are guaranteed a play-off place.

As well as enjoying himself on the field, Schweinsteiger appears to be having a good time away from football too.

Earlier this month, he and tennis ace wife Ana Ivanovic watched NFL side Chicago Bears play the Minnesota Vikings.

Again, it was the team from Minnesota who came out on top as the visitors secured a 20-17 victory.

Schweinsteiger and Ivanovic have previously watched the Blackhawks together too.

The sporting power couple wore matching No 31 jerseys in April when they witnessed another defeat - this time at the hands of the Nashville Predators.
