Brazil midfielder Oscar opens the door to Chelsea reunion: 'To return to the Premier League... I'd be very happy'

  •  Brazilian Oscar is currently playing his football in China with Shanghai SIPG
  • The midfielder left Chelsea to join the Chinese Super League in January for £52m
  • However, the 26-year-old has revealed he would be happy to return to England

Oscar has revealed his desire to return to Chelsea once his stint in the Chinese Super League comes to an end.

The Brazilian left Stamford Bridge last January to join Shanghai SIPG in a £52million deal that saw the attacking midfielder sign a contract worth £400,000-a-week.

Despite leaving half way through the season, Oscar still picked up a Premier League winners medal with the champions for his contribution during the first half of the season and he insists he would love the chance to win more silverware with the Blues in the future.

‘Yes, I would go back! I’m still young, I’m 26,' he told PL Brasil

‘Who knows in two, three years to return to the Premier League… I would be very happy. And preferably for Chelsea, who opened the door for me to return.’

Oscar speaks of his former club in glowing terms, but insists the time was right for him to leave during the winter transfer window.

A potent mix of an irresistible offer from Asia and his place on the fringes of Antonio Conte's new-found system meant sticking around at Stamford Bridge was not a viable option.

‘The proposal I had and the situation that was happening to me at the club, both played a part,' he said.

'The first eight games I played very well, then I had a League Cup game (against West Ham) where I started on the left and the team lost and changed.

‘Then he (Conte) changed the team’s way of playing in a 3-4-3 and I did not play anymore, I did not have a position to play, because I’m a more offensive midfielder and then changed a lot.

‘So I decided to leave too, but I left the door open.’

Oscar has joined Shanghai SIPG as something of a role model for Chinese players to aspire to, as the country looks to raise its profile in the game.

And the Brazilian believes he had the perfect mentor to learn from in the form of Chelsea icon Frank Lampard.

‘I really enjoyed playing with him, I learned a lot,' he said.

'He impressed me a lot. Not only him, many others, but he is an example of a guy that I trained and saw every day.’
