  • Kevin De Bruyne has three assists in five league starts for Manchester City
  • The 26-year-old has been vital to their strong start to the Premier League season
  • Manager Pep Guardiola is set to reward the Belgian with another new contract
  • The deal could see De Bruyne's current £6million per year deal doubled
  • Guardiola's side have four fixtures in the next 10 days including a trip to Chelsea

Manchester City will open talks with Kevin De Bruyne over a new contract which could see the Belgium international almost double his £6million a year wages.

The 26-year-old still has four years left on a contract which currently sees De Bruyne take home £115,000 per week but City want to reward his performances with a substantial pay rise.

De Bruyne was substituted after 66 minutes of City's 6-0 thrashing of Watford at Vicarage Road on Saturday - shortly before Sergio Aguero completed his hat-trick - which sent City joint top of the Premier League with rivals Manchester United, and sharing identical figures.

The Belgian was unable to properly impact the game, but has been a key member of Pep Guardiola's new-look City side, assisting three times in his five league starts.

Guardiola will be keen to keep hold of the former Chelsea man, who joined City from Wolfsburg for £52million in 2015, Sportsmail reported.

The City boss will need his team in full-swing ahead of an important 10 days for Guardiola's side, who have four matches scheduled with a Champions League clash at the Etihad Stadium against Shakhtar Donetsk and a crucial trip to Stamford Bridge at the end of the month.
