Victor Lindelof has been tipped to become an Old Trafford success despite having a shaky start to life as a Manchester United player.

The 23-year-old versatile defender had a far from impressive pre-season campaign and was part of the side which lost to Real Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup.

Lindelof is yet to feature for United since but Jesper Blomqvist believes his compatriot has what it takes to become a regular for Jose Mourinho's side.

Blomqvist, speaking to Four Four Two, said of Lindelof: 'He's a little bit young, but I believe a lot in him. He'll be better when he gets acclimatised.

'I feel like he's a perfect fit for a central defender but can also play on the right. He's very comfortable with the ball, he likes to play from the back and is very fast so he can be good one against one as well.

'I definitely feel he's the perfect player for United but it takes time. If you look at the other players here now, all of them have taken some time.

'I felt it too. Whenever you come to a big club like this there's so much going on around and it's not as easy to get into the club, into the team, because it's more spread out than in a smaller club.'

Lindelof will have gained confidence after appearing in Sweden's comfortable 4-0 win over Belarus on Sunday.

Mourinho will be hoping the Swede returns to Manchester with an extra spring in his step as he aims to dislodge Phil Jones or Eric Bailly at the heart of United's defence.

Manchester United, who have won all three of their Premier League games thus far, face Stoke City at the bet365 Stadium after the international break.

Lindelof is expected to get some game-time under his belt in September as Manchester United face the prospect of playing seven games in 22 days.
