Celtic are expected to announce the re-signing of Manchester City winger Patrick Roberts on Monday.

The Hoops' boss Brendan Rodgers has been vigourously chasing the 20-year-old, who was also a summer target for Southampton, Huddersfield and free-spending Nice.

Roberts, who signed for City from Fulham in a deal believed to be in the region of £12million, spent last season on loan at Parkhead.

He proved to be a vital asset to Rodgers' squad, scoring 15 goals in all competitions from 43 appearances on route to securing the Scottish treble.

Following his impressive campaign last season, the skillful winger made it his priority to return to the Scottish champions and rebuffed moves to the Premier League and France.

City have ordered Celtic to pay a significant loan fee for his services after long-lasting and tiring negotiations, which Rodgers is willing to do in order to acquire a midfielder of his talent

He has already recruited three players this summer, including box-to-box player Oliver Ntcham from Pep Guardiola's side for £4.5m.

But he has actively been looking bolster his squad further as they look to retain the title in similar fashion to last.

Getting the Roberts deal over the line will represent a sizeable boost for the Parkhead manager, who will be eager for his side to recover from their blip on Saturday.

Callum McGregor rescued a point for Celtic in their home game with St Johnstone and face a trip to Hamilton next in the league.
